Accountants Email List and CPA Email List: Which Accountants You Can Reach, by Firm Size and Country

Publish date: Oct 22, 2026
NASBA counts 650,667 actively licensed CPAs in the United States, drawn from 53 of the 55 licensing jurisdictions. The BLS counts 1,595,200 accountant and auditor jobs, the IRS counts 886,338 paid preparers, and vendor pages selling an accountants email list print anything from 14,581 to "490K+" contacts without saying which population the file came from. This page names the roster behind each number, prints Spona's count of accounting firms by size band in four countries, checks every vendor headline against its population, quotes what the IRS and state boards release (no email addresses), and lists every price on a vendor page.

CPA email list, accountants email list or tax preparer list: pick the population first
Four official sources give four different numbers, and a vendor count only means something next to the right one.
- Licensed CPAs: 650,667. NASBA's Accountancy Licensee Database; Hawaii and New Mexico are missing, and "active" follows each board's own status categories. This is the ceiling for any CPA email list.
- Accountant and auditor jobs: 1,595,200. The BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook puts 21% of them, about 335,000 people, inside "accounting, tax preparation, bookkeeping, and payroll services" firms; the rest work in-house, in government or for themselves.
- Paid tax preparers: 886,338. The IRS Return Preparer Office counts PTIN holders: 209,076 CPAs, 71,966 enrolled agents, 26,256 attorneys and 72,049 Annual Filing Season Program holders, some counted under more than one credential.
- AICPA & CIMA: 580,000 "members, candidates and registrants in 150 countries and territories", per its about page: a membership figure, not a count of US CPAs.
Practice software, CPE and outsourcing sell to the 335,000 people inside firms and need an accounting firms email list organized by firm and headcount. Payroll and close-management vendors sell to the 1.26 million outside firms, most of them in-house, where a chief accounting officer email list beats a CPA roster. Audit tooling is narrower still: the FRC counted 3,421 registered audit firms in 2025, down 9%, and a US auditors email list is a filter on firms that do attest work. A tax preparer list is the widest, and fewer than a quarter of the 886,338 are CPAs.
Accounting firms email list by size band: Spona counts for the US, UK, Germany and France
Spona data holds four Accounting groups split by headcount. Each cell is companies / verified contacts, country means company headquarters, the figures are rounded inventory counts confirmed against Spona's records, and groups can overlap.

| Accounting firms by staff | US | UK | Germany | France |
| 1 to 9 staff | 90,000 / 115,000 | 28,000 / 35,000 | 25,000 / 30,000 | 12,000 / 15,000 |
| 10 to 49 staff | 15,000 / 38,000 | 4,000 / 10,000 | 4,500 / 11,000 | 2,500 / 6,000 |
| 50 to 249 staff | 2,000 / 10,000 | 500 / 2,500 | 600 / 3,000 | 400 / 2,000 |
| 250+ staff | 300 / 3,000 | 100 / 1,000 | 100 / 1,000 | 80 / 800 |
| Sum of the rounded rows | 107,300 / 166,000 | 32,600 / 48,500 | 30,200 / 45,000 | 14,980 / 23,800 |
Checked against public counts: 107,300 US companies is 89% of the 120,379 firms the Census Bureau counted under NAICS 5412, as republished by naicslist.com, and above IBISWorld's 85,322 "Accounting Services" businesses, a narrower category. 166,000 US contacts is 10% of the BLS's 1,595,200 jobs and about half of the 335,000 inside firms. The Bundessteuerberaterkammer has 105,953 members, including 89,549 natural persons and 15,232 firms; Spona's 30,200 German companies is a different count: companies in its "Accounting" group by headquarters, not chamber members. The contacts are verified contacts at those companies, not licensed CPAs, Steuerberater or chartered accountants; the file records no licence.
Who to target in each accounting firm size band
- 1 to 9 staff: the owner signs for everything.
- 10 to 49 staff: a managing partner plus an office or practice manager who runs software and vendors. 15,000 US firms, 4,500 German, 4,000 UK.
- 50 to 249 staff: a COO, an IT lead and a practice-management role appear. 2,000 US firms with 10,000 contacts; 600 German firms with 3,000.
- 250+ staff: procurement and a CIO. 300 US firms, 100 each in the UK and Germany, 80 in France.
Where a Spona accounting firms email list does not fit
Spona has no accounting-specific verification rate (its data sheet says "Role and vertical splits remain unmeasured"), its technology field is filled on 38% of company records, and it does not tag credentials. For a credential-tagged CPA list, BookYourData's CPA tags or the IRS directory are the better route; for state counts you can inspect before paying, UpLead prints them. What Spona does well is the band query: "Industry + headcount + country + seniority" is its most used filter combination, 22% of 1,000 searches, delivered scored in about 4 minutes and paid per lead.
What vendors claim for an accountant email list: counts, guarantees and the roster they never name
Ten vendor pages from the two SERPs.

| Vendor | Count claimed | Accuracy claim | Price | Refresh claim |
| InfoCleanse | "412,562+" accountants, 75+ fields, 50 state lists | "95% email deliverability rate guaranteed" | quote only | none stated |
| LeadsCampaign | "165K+" accountants in the meta title; CPA page "105K+", "98% Verified" | "8-Step" verification, no percentage; stats block reads "0 +", "0 %" | quote only; free sample in 24 to 48 hours | "Regular" |
| LakeB2B | "more than 100,000" accounting professionals, "80+ data fields" | "95% or above", bounce guarantee | quote only | quarterly |
| UpLead | 228,019 US; 400,247 worldwide; state counts printed (CA 29,941, NY 20,462, TX 18,999) | "100% Verified Data" headline, "95% Data Accuracy" body | $11,999 US; $14,999 worldwide; $399 for 908 | at export |
| BookYourData | 14,581 CPA-tagged worldwide; 9,942 US; 848 Canada | "97% deliverability guarantee", bounces refunded as credits | $599 US; $199 Canada; from $99 for 250 | monthly pool, verified at download |
| Thomson Data | "46,271" CPA contacts; industry table sums to about 125,700 | "90% deliverability rate" | quote only | "constantly updated" |
| BlueMailMedia | "490K+" accountants; CPA page "26K+" | "95% deliverability" | quote only | every 90 days and before delivery |
| InfoClutch | SERP title "25944 Verified CPAs"; page counters read "Total USA Counts 0 Total Emails 0" | "dual verification" | quote only | a single date stamp |
| Database Providers | "285K+" US; "420K+" worldwide | "95%+ deliverability" | one-time purchase, figures on a separate page | "frequently refreshed" |
| Coldlytics | no count; researched on demand, exclusive for 30 days | ZeroBounce check before a credit is spent | 25 free a month; from $49 a month | within 24 hours on business days |
Against the populations above: BookYourData's 14,581 is 2.2% of NASBA's 650,667 licensed CPAs, Thomson Data's 46,271 is 7% and LeadsCampaign's 105K is 16%; UpLead's 228,019 is 14% of the BLS's 1,595,200 jobs, InfoCleanse's 412,562 is 26% and BlueMailMedia's 490K is 31%. No count exceeds its population, but no page names its roster or method, and the state splits UpLead and Thomson Data print cannot be checked against NASBA, whose count page gives no state figures. Thomson Data's industry breakdown sums to about 125,700 against a 46,271 headline, and the live counters on InfoClutch's and LeadsCampaign's pages show zeros. A "95% deliverability guarantee" is a refund term, not a measurement of your file, so read what you get back for a bounce before comparing two percentages.
Where an accountants email list really comes from: the IRS PTIN file, state board lookups and firm websites
The biggest free roster of tax-side accountants is the IRS's own: under FOIA it publishes the PTIN holder file as a zipped CSV, consolidated or by state, "updated bi-annually". The released fields are name, business name, business website, business phone, business mailing address and credentials; the personal mailing address is "exempt from public disclosure", and email is not released at all. The IRS's preparer directory lists credentialed preparers and AFSP holders only.

State boards hold the licence. CPAverify is "populated by official state regulatory data sent from Boards of Accountancy", references 55 boards, and has no email field. The California Board of Accountancy lookup shows licence type, number, status, dates and an "Address of Record", all of it "public information" and none of it an email. The Texas State Board searches individuals and firms by licence ID or name. Society directories add terms: the Oregon Society of CPAs Find-a-CPA is "provided for private individual use only", with "commercial use, research use, or other solicitation" prohibited without permission. Terms differ by state and body.
Vendors confirm the pattern: BookYourData names professional conference registries, accountant directories and firm team pages, InfoCleanse names job listings and "USPS and Census data". Rosters give name, firm, address, licence status and sometimes phone; the email is appended from firm websites, pattern matching and licensed feeds, then verified. Nobody downloads an accountants email list from a government. Spona's 40+ sources work the same way, under its LinkedIn rule: "Use LinkedIn information only through authorized means consistent with applicable law and LinkedIn's terms, without unauthorized scraping, automated extraction or bypassing access restrictions." The method is in how to build a B2B email list that will not bounce.
Accounting software users email list: what firms run in 2025 and why that filter sells
Software vendors buy accountant lists to find firms on a competitor or on nothing. Wolters Kluwer's 2025 Future Ready Accountant report surveyed over 2,700 professionals. It found AI adoption rose "from 9% in 2024 to 41% in 2025", 72% of firms using AI at least weekly, and 52% of firms expanding cloud-based solutions in 2025. The Thomson Reuters Institute's 2025 Generative AI report is more cautious: 21% of tax firms use GenAI and 53% are planning or considering it.
A firm that added cloud or AI in the last 18 months has a budget line and a change habit. The filter is the weak part: LakeB2B offers "software or platform usage (select records)", LeadsCampaign sells an "Accounting software users" sub-list, UpLead lists "technologies used", and none states coverage. Spona's technology-evidence field is filled on 38% of company records across all industries, so a QuickBooks users email list, or a Drake, Lacerte, CCH or Xero filter, is a subset of the firm band. Ask for the fill rate of the software field on the accounting segment before you pay for it as a filter.
Accountants mailing list, phone list or email list: which channel the free data supports
The IRS file gives a business mailing address and phone for 886,338 preparers at no cost. Postal and phone are the cheap channels; email is the appended, verified, paid one, and vendors price it that way: BookYourData lists postal address "on most records" and direct dial "where available", and Coldlytics charges extra credits for verified direct dials.
On the phone side, Spona data from 10,000 dials across all verticals shows a 10.0% connect rate on direct dials, 4.0% on switchboard numbers. Small firms answer their own phones, so an accountants mailing list with phones can beat email in the 1 to 9 band, and January to April is filing season, when a preparer's time belongs to clients. Outside filing season, email reaches the 10 to 249 bands, where the buyer is a partner or practice manager with an inbox.
Accountants email list prices in 2026: every figure vendors publish
Six of the ten vendors in the table above quote only, and Database Providers keeps its figures on a separate page. The published figures:
| Vendor and product | Price | Per contact |
| UpLead US accountants file, 228,019 contacts | $11,999 one time | about $0.053 |
| UpLead worldwide file, 400,247 contacts | $14,999 one time | about $0.037 |
| UpLead Starter, 908 contacts | $399 | about $0.44 |
| UpLead state and country files | $149 to $2,999; $149 to $1,999 | varies; delivered counts can vary by up to 4 to 8% |
| BookYourData US CPA package, 9,942 contacts | $599 | about $0.06 |
| BookYourData Canada CPA package, 848 contacts | $199 | about $0.23 |
| BookYourData Prospector | from $99 for 250 leads, credits never expire | $0.40 |
| BookYourData BeSpoke build | from $499 per 1,000 records | $0.50 |
| Coldlytics | 25 free leads a month; paid from $49 a month | depends on volume |
| CUFinder market range | "roughly $0.20 to $1+ per contact" for verified, credentialed accounting contacts, with minimums; 50 free credits a month | its example: 3,000 at $0.50 = $1,500, 85% pass, about $0.59 per valid contact |
| Spona | bulk leads about $0.01 to $0.09; qualified, scored leads about $0.32 to $4.00; 1,000 setup credits ($8 to $10) per new profile; free plan with sample leads | per lead, no seats, no annual contract |
ListKit's own ranking of CPA list providers puts itself first at $97 a month, then Apollo at $49, Lusha at $22.45, RocketReach at $39 and UpLead at $74, with ZoomInfo and Cognism on quote; those are subscription databases, not accountant files. The math that matters is cost per valid contact in the band you want. A $0.053 nationwide file looks cheap, but you buy 228,019 records to reach the 2,000 US firms with 50 to 249 staff; a per-lead price at Spona's rates buys those 10,000 contacts alone, about $3,200 to $40,000 for qualified leads depending on targeting and qualification work. CUFinder lands on the same rule: compare price per valid contact after the bounce check. The buy, build or pay-per-lead case is in buy an email list or build one.
Sending to a CPA email list legally: CAN-SPAM in the US, PECR, CNIL and German consent in Europe
In the US the FTC's CAN-SPAM guide sets seven main requirements: accurate headers, honest subject lines, identify the message as an ad, a physical postal address, a working opt-out that stays live for 30 days, opt-out requests honored within 10 business days, and responsibility for what others send on your behalf. Each separate email in violation carries a penalty of up to $53,088. "The law makes no exception for business-to-business email", and it does not require opt-in for B2B email; after an opt-out you cannot sell or transfer that address, and harvesting addresses is an aggravated violation. InfoCleanse and InfoClutch print lines that their data complies with CAN-SPAM, GDPR and CCPA, and Database Providers claims compliance with US data privacy laws. A file cannot follow a law; a send can, and the FTC says both the sender and the company whose product is promoted may be held legally responsible.
In Europe, Spona's approved wording, quoted verbatim:
> "Buying a B2B list does not grant permission to email it; establish a lawful basis for personal data processing, meet transparency and objection duties, and follow the recipient country's electronic marketing rules, including prior consent where required."
> "France can allow relevant professional outreach with notice and opt out, while Germany generally requires prior express consent for advertising email unless the narrow existing customer exception applies. The UK has separate PECR rules for corporate subscribers and individual subscribers such as sole traders."
For this vertical that means a cold email plan for German accounting firms, the 25,000 with 1 to 9 staff included, starts from that consent rule, and a UK list splits by legal form: a sole practitioner is an individual subscriber under PECR, a limited firm a corporate one.
Lead generation for accountants: what accounting firms buy, and a 25-person firm example
Search "lead generation for accountants" and the results flip: a Reddit thread ranks first, then agencies and growth guides for accounting firms that want clients. Accountants are the buyers there, and a firm that buys lists and runs outreach has a marketing budget.
One anonymized data point from Spona's records: a 25-person accounting firm bought 1,000 local owner contacts. Over 8 weeks, meetings per 1,000 delivered contacts went from 10 to 18, from 1.0% to 1.8%, an 80% relative increase. It is one customer, not a published case study, and it says nothing about how an accountants email list performs, because here the firm was the sender and local owners were the list. It only shows what this one firm bought: local owner contacts. On the PAA question "How much should you pay for lead generation", CUFinder's $0.20 to $1+ per verified contact and Spona's $0.32 to $4.00 per qualified lead bracket the data cost; agency fees come on top. The small-firm playbook is in small business lead generation.
How fresh an accountant email list stays: decay by country and the 30-day recheck
Spona's decay panel (10,000 records per country, all verticals) found that in one quarter 8.0% of US contacts changed title or employer and 6.5% had an email that changed or became invalid; the UK ran 7.0% and 6.0%, Germany 5.5% and 5.0%, France 6.0% and 5.5%. The BLS expects about 115,300 openings a year on 1,595,200 accounting jobs, 7.2% turnover from openings alone.
Vendor refresh claims run from "at export" (UpLead) through monthly (BookYourData) to 90 days (BlueMailMedia) and a single date stamp (InfoClutch). Spona's cadence is to verify email before delivery and again before a send if the check is over 30 days old, refresh high-activity contacts every 30 days and the wider inventory every 90 days. Its US verification funnel, all verticals: 78.0% pass, 14.0% catch-all, 8.0% otherwise rejected, and a 1.5% hard-bounce rate on 5,000 sends from the verified subset, against an operating target of under 2%. No accounting-specific verification or bounce figure exists at Spona or on any vendor page we read. The mechanics are in what data decay is and B2B data validation.

Accountants email list FAQ
Where can I find a CPA email list?
Vendors that tag credentials (BookYourData's 14,581 CPA-tagged contacts, Thomson Data's 46,271), or a per-lead build on firm size, country and role, which is what Spona does. The IRS directory and state boards confirm the licence but release no email.
Is it legal to buy an accountants email list?
In the US, CAN-SPAM does not bar the purchase: it regulates the send, and makes no exception for B2B email. In the EU and UK, buying a list does not grant permission to email it, and Germany generally requires prior express consent for advertising email. Directory terms can add limits of their own. The longer answer is in buy email list or build one.
How do I check whether someone on an accountant email list is really an accountant?
Search CPAverify or the state board (California and Texas run free lookups) for a CPA licence, and the IRS directory for a credentialed preparer. Both confirm the licence, never the email address.
How often is an accountants email list updated?
Claims run from real time at export to every 90 days. Spona's panel (all verticals) measured 6.5% of US emails changing or going invalid in one quarter, so re-verify anything checked more than 30 days ago.
Can I get a Canadian accountants email list, and does CASL apply?
BookYourData sells 848 CPA-tagged Canadian contacts for $199 and UpLead lists 10,507 Canadian accountants. CASL's consent duties fall on the sender; a vendor's statement that its list was built in accordance with CASL does not transfer them.
